Recipes

Most any recipe can be converted to organic by finding and using organic products. If organic ingredients cannot be found or are cost prohibitive, do the best that you can by using the healthiest ingredients that you can find. Always read labels to make the best choices. Keep in mind that many organic products such as cereals are the same cost. Many grocery stores are carrying more organic products at reasonable prices.

Some examples of healthy choices are:

Choose foods mainly from the outer areas of the grocery stores where fresh foods are located.

Fresh fruits and vegetables:

  • buy fresh organic, especially checking for the dirty dozen

  • if not organic, buy from local markets

  • organic frozen, such as fruits and vegetables

Meats, poultry and seafood:

  • organic

  • if not organic, buy without antibiotics, no added hormones, vegetarian diet. no artificial ingredients or preservatives

  • buy fresh or frozen seafood from reputable areas of the world

Canned goods:

  • organic

  • use non organic products as little as possible, if not, make the best choice by avoiding added sugar and salt

Breads and other packaged goods:

  • organic whole wheat and grain

  • if not organic, avoid partially hydrogenated (trans fats) and high fructose corn syrup ingredients

Ingredients will be listed with the ones that I use that are organic or healthier choices. Examples would be, with meat and poultry I almost exclusively use organic or all natural. In canned goods, I use mostly organic.

For healthier baking  add whole wheat pastry flour in the proportions that make sense for you and your family. An example would be in muffins, use half regular organic unbleached flour and half organic whole wheat pastry flour.

There are recipes with seafood and poultry, but none for beef or pork.  There will be many vegetarian recipes.

Have fun experimenting with these ideas. Recipes don't always turn out, but don't give up, just try another way. I've given recipes that have worked for me.  More recipes will be added
