Why we garden

Gardening

I don’t know what it is about a garden that has always drawn humans to them. But they’ve always been  very popular, and an integral part of peoples’ lifestyles.

From food to flowers people love gardens. While we have a natural desire to progress and industrialize, deep within all of us is a primal love for nature. A garden is a way to quickly escape from the busy world. Since being in nature is like regressing to an earlier stage of humanity, we too can regress to a time of comfort and utter happiness. This is why gardens are so relaxing and calming to be in.

Organic Gardening

Organic gardening is a style that is environmentally and people friendly in any location. Organic gardening is not just the same as regular gardening except that no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are used. This is a big part, but looking at the overall picture the goal is to work in harmony with
nature.

Basic organic principles start with organic seeds or plants, healthier soil, organic fertilizers, weed and pest control.  This can make certain aspects difficult, such as controlling disease, insects, and weeds. Organic gardening also requires more attention to the soil and the many needs of plants.

Start where you can until you can have your total organic garden. Many merchants are offering organic alternatives, or search the web to find organic products. Gardening is definitely a healthy habit. It provides physical exercise, helps the environment, and improves your diet.

Organic gardening is an excellent way to assure that your plants will be free and clear
of all pesticides and, if taken care of properly, will be as healthy as possible. Organic gardening may take a little more time and care than regular gardening, but after gardeners get the feel of their garden, it is definitely worth the extra time.

Tips for a new garden

  • Till the soil gently to maintain the natural layers
  • Place garden for at least six hours of sun each day
  • Use transplants for plants that grow slower like tomatoes and peppers
  • Use seeds for plants that do not transplant well such as carrots or those that grow well from seeds like beans
  • Hand water until roots are formed
  • Control weeds by pulling them often
